After ESP-Disk' founder Bernard Stollman moved from Manhattan to upstate New York in the '70s, he found himself moving among a different pool of musicians, and the label's releases reflected this, with the balance between jazz and other styles tilting towards the latter, such as this groups sound, equal parts rock and R&B. Bernard was already familiar with one of the mainstays of this group, Jerry Moore, who'd had a solo album released earlier. Bernard was doubtless attracted by the band's political stance as well.
